Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities ABOUT THE TEAM

The General Surgery team is a large multi-specialty service providing specialist care to patients across the Wessex region for specialties including lower GI, Upper GI, Colorectal, HPB and Skin Cancer Surgery. We provide a range of outpatient, diagnostic, elective and emergency services across multiple sites, although the role will be based at UHS.

The successful candidate will work with the care group management team and divisional performance teams to oversee the delivery of national targets, specifically 18-week referral to treatment, cancer pathways and 6 week diagnostic pathways and will work with multiple teams both within and outside of the care group to help facilitate delivery.

You will need to liaise with patients of all ages, clinicians at all levels and senior managers within the Trust. The role will provide an insight into multiple pathways and exposure to senior management teams offering an ideal opportunity for development into an operational role.

This is a full-time role and the hours of work will be between core hours of 8am-6pm, Monday – Friday. Flexibility may be required based on demands of the role.

What You’ll Do

  • Work closely with the Surgical Specialities, care group management team and wider admin teams to support delivery of hospital and national performance targets
  • Work with the clinical teams to support service development; working with both clinical and admin teams to streamline patient pathways from referral to treatment.
  • Work with the divisional performance team to provide support with validation of patient pathways and diagnostic reports
  • Coordinate our complex cancer service liaising with multiple specialties and stakeholders both internal and external to trust
  • Lead our general surgery admin teams to provide high level care to patients, supporting the clinical team as required and supporting/encouraging teams to develop.

The successful candidate will be a flexible team player with a desire to provide a first-class service for our patients and clinical teams. They will also have a proven track record in demonstrating excellent leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team.

NHS experience is desirable, but applications are welcome from anyone who has transferable skills to do the role.
