About the job

Your new company

This role is to start immediately and the school are looking for enthusiastic and hardworking teaching assistants to apply as soon as possible.

The school is an alterative provision with students aged between 14 – 16 providing support and teaching to those children who find it hard to learn within a mainstream school. This could be due to behavioural problems, S.E.M.H, EBD, or anxiety. Classes have no more than 10 children where if successful you will be supporting them with teaching and learning. The school has a good reputation and have really friendly and motivated staff who are there to support one another.

Your new role

As an alternative provision Teaching assistant you will be managing a classroom with children who are suffering rom S.E.M.H mainly. So, these are children who may suffer from anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, being forgetful, not being able to focus or accept praise. This means that as a SEMH Teaching assistant you will be required to be more energetic and interactive in your teaching support alongside the classroom teacher. You must always engage with these children regularly ensuring they are motivated to learn and focused. You must ensure the classroom environment is optimistic and the children are at least trying to learn and engage more.

What you’ll need to succeed

Successful candidate must be creative with their lessons to enable the children to engage with carious activities and develop their abilities. Since children with SEMH will lack focus, you must be able to gain their trust and help them to develop essential skills for life beyond education. You must have a minimum 6 months’ experience supporting pupils with SEN or in an SEN setting. As well as having experience teaching children with challenging and SEMH behaviour would also be beneficial. You must also be able to follow classroom instructions set by the teacher well and manage behaviour in classroom. It will also be beneficial for you to be able to build strong relationships with the children gaining their trust!

What you’ll get in return

In return for working as an alternative provision teaching assistant you will be gaining a long-term role working with a fantastic school who are very dedicated to helping the children learn. You will also gain many benefits such as being able to access our hays hub portal through our Hays app which you can download on your phone/tablet and access your timesheets and manage your bookings. As well as this you will have an expert consultant working with you guiding you with any questions or enquiries you may have. You will also receive £250 in vouchers if you Refer a Friend to Hays.
