Job title: Admin Support Officer
Location: HMP Doncaster, Doncaster
Salary: £21,224.16 per annum, plus Serco benefits
Working hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week
HMP Doncaster is a category B local resettlement prison situated in South Yorkshire, operated by Serco. Doncaster houses a male population of up to 1145 individuals, approximately 200 of whom are young offenders aged 18-20.
As a resettlement prison we work with our prisoners, particularly those serving less than 12-months, to ensure that they have the support they need for resettlement as well as access to the services and support available to them after release. The majority of our prisoners are released back into South Yorkshire.
As Admin Support Officer, you will be involved working within the Offender Management Unit to identify individuals who pose a risk to specific victims and/or groups and to monitor and/or place appropriate restrictions on them whilst they are in custody with a view to protecting victims and avoid repeat victimisation.
Key Accountabilities Include
- Assessing and identifying prisoners in custody who require periods of monitoring and impose restrictions to protect victims of crime
- Making defensible decisions and justifying interceptions of communication
- Working collaboratively with internal and external agencies to ensure risk management whilst also information sharing to provide further public protection
- Recording and inputting information and data on local databases but also others such as VISOR and NOMIS
- Effectively work as part of a team within the Offender Management Unit
- Checking of information on all legal documentation such as warrants received from court for specific information identifying offences relating to PPU manual
- Completing initial assessments on prisoners on arrival into custody based on their current and previous offending justifying reasons for/not for monitoring
- Listening to calls and reading of prisoner mail and logging information using appropriate systems and procedures
- Raising concerns to management and following appropriate prison protocols for sharing of information to relevant parties, including prison security, Prison Offender Manager, Social Services and Probation/Police Services
- Approve or reject telephone numbers based on knowledge and information held on prisoner and following communication with members of the public
- Weekly and monthly update reports
- Sharing of relevant information to aid in risk management meetings such as MAPPA, Inter-Departmental Risk Management Meetings
- Liaison with OMU staff including Head of Services, Head of Delivery and Prison/Probation POMs.
What You Need To Do The Job
- No formal qualifications required for this role
- Basic IT skills would be beneficial
- Look, listen, observe, record and report information about the offender accurately and timely, using the most suitable means;
- Being able to identify and share appropriately even small pieces of information that can be crucial to risk assessment and effective management;
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to team-based assessments in order to effectively manage risk.
- To be aware of appropriate professional boundaries and report any concerns to the appropriate prison staff/management.
- Watch and record patterns of concerning behaviour
- Be aware that risk levels change and respond appropriately to these changes.
- Be aware of data protection and Public Protection Guidelines/policies.
- Good general understanding of computer-based systems including Word, Excel and Outlook.
