About the Role
The AWS Cost Controller is a FinOps role within Sapphire Systems who will have responsibility for cost optimisation across Sapphire’s AWS platforms. The role will entail the adoption of cost optimisation best practice policies and the generation of reports that can support cost savings.
The successful candidate will be working with technical resources to ensure best practice processes are followed, providing advice when required and flagging areas of concern, such as when a recent change has introduced unnecessary cost.
Sapphire has two AWS platforms:
- Sapphire Anywhere on AWS: This is a legacy platform that hosts 40 SAP B1 and Sun Systems customers. The platform is basic in design and is not “well architectured” or cost optimised.
- Sapphire Beyond: This is Sapphire’s new AWS platform. The platform is not yet live but is intended to be live in March 22. It will replace Sapphire Anywhere on AWS and Sapphire’s Private Cloud platforms and will eventually host over 160 customers.
Sapphire are looking for an AWS Cost Controller who will ensure costs across both AWS environments are optimised and managed. The AWS Cost Controller will generate reports that show the level of optimisation of the AWS Platforms and areas where further work is required to reduce costs.
Sapphire partner with Cloudreach for AWS services. The AWS Cost Controller will manage the monthly Cloudreach invoice and challenge unexpected line items or cost values.
Sapphire use AWS CloudHealth and AWS Cost Explorer for cost reporting and visibility of spend per customer. Using Cloudhealth and AWS Cost Explorer you should be able to generate reports that lead to cost optimisation activities such as:
Identify unattached EBS volumes
Report on snapshots
Identify unattached elastic IP addresses
Reports of all non-live assets
Rightsize reports of EC2 instances
