About The Opportunity

We are looking for people to join our Water catchment management team to help our clients answer some of their most challenging water quality problems. Our team is growing rapidly, and we are working with the Environment Agency, Water Companies (in the UK and across Europe), and private sectors clients to deliver projects to deliver a step change in environmental water quality.

Our team is centred around our innovative new Bristol office, but we are willing to be flexible for the right candidate. We are looking for people with a range of experience but would expect you to be chartered (or operating at that level), with an environmental chemistry, microbiology or hydrology background, with the majority of your experience based in freshwater modelling and assessments.

Appreciation of the water industry regulatory drivers and related legislation

  • Catchment-scale modelling for water framework directive and WINEP environmental enhancement projects
  • UPM assessments (desirable, but not essential), including building simplified network and receiving water quality models, calibration and validation, as well as option and solution analysis to mitigate environmental pollution problems
  • Understanding of water quality impacts of pollution on sensitive receiving waters and aquatic environments including toxicity of sediment
  • Designing and understanding of water quality sampling programmes and monitoring for pollution source tracing and apportionment
  • Water quality data analysis, visualisation, and statistical reporting for regulatory reporting and evidence-based decision-making
  • Understanding of water quality impacts of soil loss and the linkage to nutrient and eutrophication risks/management
  • Hydrochemistry and hydrology of lakes (sediment and nutrient cycling – not essential)

Here’s What You’ll Need

You will have a thorough understanding and experience of the physical, chemical, and bacteriological processes in water bodies to develop models (or direct others to develop models) of these processes for catchment-scale modelling.

You will have a working knowledge of how the WFD is implemented in the UK, some experience of use of the industry standard SAGIS SIMCAT, as well as some experience in managing project or task delivery and a strong team ethos.

Key Software Skills

Experience of one or more of the following softwares

  • SAGIS/SIMCAT/RQP (essential)
  • ESRI ArcGIS or QGIS (essential)
  • Source apportionment models such as Farmscoper or sediment run off models such as SCIMAP (desirable)
  • Python (desirable)
  • Mike ECO Lab (desirable)
  • Cormix/Qual2E (optional)
  • Proprietary modelling tools such as SIMPOL 3 or RIOT (optional).
  • Infoworks ICM (optional)
  • Database programming eg. SQL server (optional)
