Immigration Enforcement (IE) is the operational arm of the Home Office, responsible for reducing the size of the illegal population and the harm it causes. We deal directly with the public, or support others who do – carrying out vital work to deliver services of the highest quality, every day. We work with law enforcement and cross-government partners to tackle serious and organised immigration crime with a focus on bringing to justice those who exploit the vulnerable, for example cases of modern slavery and human trafficking.

Job description

In order to be eligible, you MUST meet ALL of the following criteria.

  • I am at least 18 years old at the time of application

  • I am aware that I will need to undertake and pass a medical assessment if successful

  • I am aware that I will need to undertake and pass a paid Pathway Programme of training if successful

  • I can undertake shift work

  • I will be able to provide all the documents required to complete my pre-employment screening and security clearance

Person Specification

We are looking to recruit Immigration Officers to join our frontline Immigration Compliance and Enforcement (ICE) teams and our Reporting and Offender Management Teams (ROM).

To carry out this crucial and rewarding work you will need to be an excellent communicator, who can remain calm and professional even in emotionally charged and pressurised situations. You should have the ability and confidence to be assertive, taking control of situations where necessary.

You will be naturally inquisitive and must enjoy working as part of a team, in fast-paced and changing environments. You will have an eye for detail and the ability to work within the confines of legislation, policy, and procedure.

Adaptability and flexibility are paramount, and you will have a strong sense of personal ethics and honesty. You will be motivated by making a difference to society and the crucial frontline work that Immigration Enforcement carries out.

This is a demanding and physical role, so you will need to be emotionally resilient, physically fit with a good level of mobility, and comfortable with working in challenging environments both inside and out.

When you take up your post, you will be required to undertake and pass the Pathway training programme, which uses a blended learning approach and typically takes between 12-18 months to complete.
