Digital Hardware Team Leader

A vacancy has arisen for a Digital Hardware Engineering Team Leader within the Communication Products group, based in Stevenage, to lead an established team of design Engineers.

The Communication Products group is responsible for the development of Digital Processors for use in telecommunication Satellites. The processor functionality ranges from high capacity channelisers, supporting inter-satellite optical data links, to implementing cryptographic algorithms to protect the spacecraft.

In this rewarding role you will join a multi-disciplinary team with access to experts in all disciplines, and be responsible for developing some of the highest performing digital communication payload equipment available anywhere in the world as part of the rapidly expanding UK space sector.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • All line manager tasks for 10 – 20 employees, including objective setting, appraisals, Time management, salary review, etc
  • Take responsibility for and technically support the Digital HW solutions produced by the design team, including schematic / PCB design with high speed interfaces and local power conditioning
  • Resource management, ensuring that the team are fully occupied, assigned appropriate tasks and provide resource inputs to the senior management team
  • Identify and resolve any recruitment or development needs
  • Support response to bids, technical, financial and schedule
  • Maintain and ensure that the team follow the Communication Products (CP) design process, supporting evolution of that process, and producing new ones as required

Essential Skills

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge

  • You will be ideally educated to degree level and have 10+ years experience in Digital design
  • You must possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Ability to support and present technical solutions and issues to senior management and customers
  • Self-motivated team player capable of working with minimum direction

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Experience of line Management in an engineering environment
  • Mentor Design tools

The successful candidate will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check) or UK SC Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
