A Final Word on Online Flipbook Software
With all of the different free and paid flipping book software applications available today, anybody can create HTML5 flipbooks with little-to-no experience required.
My suggestion is to try a few different flipbook software apps to see which one you like most before committing to a single product. A lot of them offer free plans or free trials, so you can mess around with a few different tools to see which one fits your needs the best.
Have any questions about finding the best flipbook software for your needs? Comment below and we’ll help you out.
I would warn against FlipHTML5 – they recently made some “upgrades” to their system, which resulted in our download links breaking twice – clearly their fault, which we documented fortunately, because they tried to claim at first it was our error. We were able to show that 1) they failed to document the need to copy the download link to a separate setting from the “Allow download” checkbox, and 2)several days later changed the download links without notification, while the download button in our flipbooks continued to point to the old link.
Now the download statistic is not working. In answer to my email to support, they replied that downloads are only counted when the download button in the flipbook is used. Well, yes – and that IS the button everyone used. There is no other way to download the PDF from our flipbooks. We have them hosted on their server not on our domain.
Between those problems, and the language barrier (documentation is in poor English, and tech support is not very fluent either), I recommend using some other service.
I have used FlipHTML5 for a long time, but everything is working well, are you a spammer from FlipHTML5’s competitors?
I agree. I lost week’s of work. It is great software when it works, but their service is terrible (and that’s sugar coating it).
We have been using FlipHTML5 for two years without too many problems. Support is so-so at best (language, knowledge, and it-is-not-our-fault-it-is-yours).
And now their website is down (since Aug 19, 2017) – no answers, no temporary website, nothing. It has been 15 hours at least – whatever happened to their servers, this is totally unprofessional.
Our business and most of our revenues depend on their servers working!
Then I discovered that Anyflip is the exact same software by the exact same company as Fliphtml5, WONDER IDEA TECHNOLOGY LIMITED of Hong Kong. And Anyflip’s website works fine right now.
So what is this? Are they just hugely incompetent or did they run away with the money??? We paid our yearly USD299 for Platinum Service (yeah!) only eight days ago.
PS: Betty, for the record, I am not paid by their competitors, I paid them to do their job, like, properly.
Thanks Scott for this interesting and useful article. I read somewhere that Adobe has this feature as part of their suite, but I usually avoid their products due to the neverending, resource-hogging updates etc.
What I find strange is that MS hasn’t included the page transition animation in Publisher, Word etc.; I’m looking for a once-off solution for a catalog I want to send to potential clients as an attachment to an email but I don’t want it published on an online hosting site.
I agree, Patrick! That would be a killer feature if Microsoft stepped in. I wouldn’t worry about online hosting security, if that’s your main concern here. Most of the services have pretty good encryption and data protection mechanisms in place. I’d probably go with Dropbox for most scenarios. If you’re thinking of a desktop flipbook maker to stay away from the cloud, I’d recommend FlippingBook Publisher or 1stFlip.
Good review! Have you come across any updates on Windows 10 compatibility from KVISoft and FlipBuilder? Would you recommend a desktop tool or a web-based service?
Hans, last time I checked, nether KVISoft, FlipBook Maker, nor Flip Builder claimed Windows 10 support, which is… well… peculiar to say the least. In this particular matter, I’m all for online tools since you can leverage the power of the cloud and enjoy the flexibility associated with the web version. PDF is by no means the epitome of a lightweight format, so you may want to be on the safe side and employ cloud storage if it comes along with the services.
I use FlipBuilder in Windows 10 Pro, and it works just fine.
Hi, Scott,
We’re thinking of branching out our print books to eBooks but without reformatting, flip books seems the only way to use our PDF layouts. Our concern is the rampant amount of copyright infringement we’ve met in one particular market. Is there some safety in place with flip eBooks that will prevent them from being pirated or shared without payment? Thank you.
As a Railway Society we have an online archive, free only to members. When we first published them on the FlipHTML5 platform we ticked the box to stop Google from indexing them. However, this wasn’t enough and our content soon appeared on the internet when certain phrases and words were used.
To prevent Google and other bots from scraping and spreading our content over the web we did the following:
We published them in an on line forum which was itself password protected. We then coded the page the bookshelves were displayed on in order to tell the bots not to scrape the page. Finally we password protected each book. Clearly over the top but it stopped other pages from appearing. To avoid having to give each member their own password for each book we used the same password for every book.
Hi Scott,
Thanks for the article. I am looking at using a flip book format to publish a Legacy book that will only have limited circulation to family members (that is, not a business case). I have been testing Flip Builder. I like their features – embedded audio, playing Vimeo videos in place, etc. My concern is that some of these features seem to be somewhat unstable, do not always work (at least in the free “test” version). Have you tested these features in production? Are there Flip Builder users out there who can attest to this product’s integrity?
Thanks,
Darren
Hi Darren, it depends on the features you are having trouble with. Most of the minor issues I had regarding Flip Builder were resolved with a little browsing through their knowledge base: https://www.flipbuilder.com/support/. I haven’t encountered any Flip Builder user forum per se, but I’m sure there are a bunch of people who can attest to the product’s capabilities. First off, I’d try KB and tech support.
I’ve been working with Flip PDF Professional for Mac and PUBHTML5 also for Mac. Both seem to do what I need, but neither has any kind or reasonable support. In the case of Flip PDF, their last upgrade cost me several week’s worth of work and when I asked for help, they have not recently replied at all, much less offered a solution. I switched to PUBHTML5 which at first seemed better, but with plenty of bugs and not any better support. Based on your response above I am now investigating 1st Flip. Thanks for the help.
I’m just doing research on flipbook companies. Most of what I see are not American companies. They are located in China, Romania, for example. Can you suggest companies that are owned and operated in the U.S.?
I got flipHTML5 platinum to create flip books for a few of my clients. Its relatively easy to use but clients had a few specific wants/needs that it doesn’t seem to support:
1. When clicking the download PDF link, it gives the PDF a random obscure name. I asked customer service and there is no way to give it a custom name to make it easy for the clients’ customers to recognize. They basically said this is they way it is and it will not change it.
2. When clicking the download PDF link, clients want an option to download a single page (current page) but this is not a feature either.
Is there any other HTML5 software that is more customizable in these ways? Many of the above options seem to be nearly the exact same. These are very minor things but to my clients they are important 🙂 The old flash based software I used (flipping book) had these features but they are only PC based which was a major pain to use. I need mac compatable software. Any suggestions would be helpful. Also I or my clients generally host the books ourselves so a cloud based option is not necessary.
Thank you!
Please note buying from #2… They have absolute NO Customer service… I mean that as in there are customers that have been trying to connect with this company for over a year with absolutely no response. I’ve had to call my bank to start a claim against them
Hello,
I am trying to create an interactive e-cookbook which will have the following:
– 6 categories (e.g. beverage, Appetizers, Entrees, Dessert, Misc. etc)
-Each of these categories would have individual items (could house 10-60 items)
-Users should be able to click on any individual item and view each page (text, audio, video)
-Also users can go to each category anytime
Do you have any recommendations for a specific software?
Many thanks
Hello
I’ve been using Flippingbook for over 5 years but stopped this year to change to Flip Html5 (same editor as pubHMTL5)
I stopped working with Flipping Book because my version was incompatible in HTML5 with Chrome, Opera and IE. Only Firefox and Edge gave a good result. Besides for me (I am a teacher and I don’t have a big budget) the price is excessive and renewing his license costs 80% of the license price.
Fliphtml5 gives me satisfaction but the same publisher has several products under different brands and it is difficult to understand the difference. I almost bought a product that didn’t suit me.
There are also some good ideas like batch or command line but output is not HTML5
Good product but very confusing; be careful and test before producing.
Some bugs but we don’t know if we have the latest version and there is no version history on the site.
The price is equal to 1/3 of flipping book so it is a good purchase overall while Flipping Book does not work on all browsers.
What about ISpring Flip. I read this other article that recommended it but I can’t seem to find any reviews on ISPRING flip specifically only ispring suite which is a package of different software.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPHrFv7_YvA
Has anyone ever used ispring?
Hi,
Hoping you can help!!
I have written a short healing guide/book. It’s all done just want to import it into flip book format and done. will be giving it out for free.
Is there an easy to use flip book or e book creator software or web based that I can use for one month only? As I will only be using it once?
There are so many out there but really just looking for a onetime use or one month use. Import and publish.
Any help would be amazzzing as this is getting a bit frustrating. Just want to give people free healing!!
Thank you for sharing this information!
Very grateful!!
Using Flip-PDF and it only works on Windows and not for android or Apple devices. The bookcase is shown but there’s no to content to review except on standard PCs. The flipping pages app works in mobiles but the pages are blank and the timer wheel never goes away. I tried to get help but no joy. Without being able to sell my books on phones & tablets it’s effectively a worthless but interesting piece of software. Unless some proper support is found I will be looking for refund.
Thanks for the Review! Very thorough, but I was wondering if you know of an ebook program that can be linked into YouTube videos using their ‘Card’ system? We’ve been using FlipSnack for a few years now, but I’d like to boost readership by linking e-books to YouTube videos. YouTube requires that we be able to ‘verify ownership’ of the site and unfortunately Flipsnack is not able to support that. Does anyone know of an e-book program that has this capability? Thank you!
